Looking back at a year rich in continuing education and complementary via ferrata courses. The year 2025 was marked by unprecedented dynamism in the field of continuing education, with no less than four training sessions organized by ASPE, bringing together over 35 participants. It has now been seven summers since the introduction of the ordinance on high-risk activities allowed certified climbing instructors to accompany and train clients on via ferrata routes. To keep up with the latest technical developments, ASPE deemed it necessary to offer suitable training. Thus, at the beginning of September, an advanced training module was organized on the via ferrata of Charmey, in the Fribourg Pre-Alps. Several members of our association participated to maintain a high standard of quality in the supervision of these challenging and dizzying routes. In October, the traditional annual training session, free for our members, took place in the canton of Valais, on the cliffs of Arbaz. This session focused on first aid and brought together a team of experts coordinated by our member François Mathey, a certified paramedic (ES), specialized rescuer (OCVS/Air Glaciers), and mountain guide. The training was delivered by Dr. Anne Sarah Lavanchy, FMH-certified physician, holder of a diploma in […]

On October 10, 2025, the ASPE gathered in the village of Arbaz, in Valais, for its traditional general assembly. The assembly was preceded by a free continuing education session, attended by 12 of our members. This day, focused on the theme of first aid, was coordinated by our member and local representative François Mathey — mountain guide, certified paramedic ES, and specialized rescuer at Air Glaciers. He was joined by two of his colleagues from Air Glaciers: Anne-Sarah Lavanchy, FMH-certified doctor and member of the GRIMM group, as well as Christophe Berclaz, also a mountain guide and specialized rescuer for OCVS. The training program alternated between theoretical modules and practical workshops, with exercises ranging from splint application to rescue techniques on rock faces. The quality of the training was unanimously praised by all participants. Thereafter, our general assembly allowed for enriching exchanges, particularly with the new technical director in charge of training climbing instructors for ASGM, Armando Bodeo, who joined live from Las Vegas! The assembly concluded with a speech by Mr. Henry Hess, municipal councilor, who also wrote an article about the event for the local newspaper. The day ended with a pleasant moment of togetherness during the aperitif […]

On May 6th, the annual traditional meeting between members of the ASGM committee and our association took place in Bern, at the premises of the Swiss Alpine Club on Monbijoustrasse. This fruitful exchange highlighted the willingness to continue constructive collaboration between ASGM and ASPE. Several topics were discussed throughout the session, including: The succession of Hanspeter Sigrist as head of the training for climbing instructors. The reevaluation and evolution of the training curriculum, aiming to maximize the knowledge and expertise of future candidates for the climbing instructor certification (PE). The new revision of ORisque, based on the principle ‘not taught = not authorized,’ in which ASPE is also actively involved. The session concluded with a shared meal consisting of sandwiches and pastries, taken on the go, as time was limited due to the afternoon being dedicated to interviews with candidates for Hanspeter Sigrist’s succession.
We are pleased to announce that our colleague and member of our association, Armando Bodeo, has recently been appointed to the position of ‘Technical Head’ for the training of ASGM climbing instructors, succeeding Hanspeter Sigrist as of 2026. The Swiss Association of Climbing Instructors congratulates Armando on his appointment. We look forward to continuing with Armando the fruitful collaboration initiated with Hanspeter, the long-standing historical Technical Head of training and honorary member of ASPE-SKLV-ASMA.
